Distance Learning
Distance Learning Updates (November 2024)
In 2023-2024, 740 Distance Education Units (DEU) were awarded to Nebraska schools for sending or receiving a distance education course (at $949.45 each).
Distance education courses offered by schools count toward meeting the course offering requirements for Rule 10, even if no students choose to take the course.
Courses that include a synchronous connection between one or more students and a Nebraska certified educator (secondary) may qualify for a DEU credit.
The Nebraska Virtual Instruction Source site, NVIS, is the statewide catalogue of available courses. However, if a course is not listed there that you believe could/should be listed, you can reach via email with questions and/or for support.
The ESU Coordinating Council has released an updated version of NVIS. Both sites will continue to run simultaneously for the rest of this academic year (to Aug 1, 2025). The new NVIS site will be the place to add, request, and verify courses moving forward. NVIS SUPPORT SITE
If you haven’t already done so, you can create/update Spring courses in NVIS.
It is now possible to verify enrollments for Fall in NVIS any time.
Spring (and Fall) verification of enrollments are due 7/31 to apply for DEUs.
